Overview


Not constrained by definite style or signature; instead our work aims to celebrate the unique characteristics of each project. In every case the project starts as a blank sheet of paper and through client, architect and consultant collaboration a solution is delivered that is particular to the client's needs, and its relationship to the site.Established in 1988, Millar Robertson Architects have developed into a medium sized practice with a diverse team of Architects and Technical support staff.  With a high level of personal involvement in the project team by one or both directors our aim is to produce the best possible solution for each project. Offering full architectural services to corporate, government and private clients to design and deliver quality public buildings, offices, hotels, health facilities, residential and mixed-use projects, with past experience in projects up to the value of $20 million.


Principals


JANE MILLAR - ARAIA Jane was born in Melbourne, Australia and studied Architecture at Melbourne University. Jane then worked for architectural practices in Melbourne and Barbados, West Indies, before commencing as a sole practitioner in 1982. In 1985, the City of St. Kilda awarded Jane the Infill Housing Prize for her first house. In 1992 Jane exhibited in ‘Articulating the Void’, an exhibition acknowledging the presence of women in architecture. Jane was a juror for the Victorian Architecture Award’s in 1993, and has subsequently presented projects for these awards on several occasions for both residential and institutional projects. Jane possesses a passion for architecture, people and life, continually striving to achieve better and bolder architecture.


Principals


JOHN ROBERTSON - ARAIA John grew up in Sydney and completed his Bachelors of Architecture and Science at the University of New South Wales. John then worked for 12 years as an Architect with the Federal Government on numerous high profile public projects, as design and construction project leader. In 1988, he joined Jane Millar to establish Millar Robertson Architects. John has been a Juror for the Victorian Architecture Awards and is an active member of the Royal Institute of Architecture.John’s public and private architectural experience has honed his skills in the development and delivery of complex and intricately detailed projects. This commitment to achieving high quality architecture, along with his problem solving ability, are his continuing strengths.


Awards


The work of Millar Robertson Architects has been recognised with design awards from regional and local organisations.  They have also presented at the Victorian Chapter of the Royal Institute of Architects Awards over the past decade.


Publications


Millar Robertson is a name that has been gaining acknowledgement from various housing and design publications ever since its establishment in 1988. Publications such as Top Homes, Houses, House and Garden, and Home Beautiful are just a few of the journels that have recognised MR's pursuit of functional, contemporary design.

Services


Full architectural services are provided by Millar Robertson. If required we will work with clients to establish the projects financial, spatial and planning feasibility, prior to formulation of a detailed functional and aesthetic brief.  Integrated architectural solutions are developed for the project, responding to the functional requirements through the exterior and interior design qualities and relationships to the landscape.  Communication and control in the lead up to and during the construction and post construction phases ensures a quality project is handed over on time and on budget.
